Twitter Software (5): Twitterrific 2.0 – New version of the popular iPhone Twitter client
When I started tweeting via my iPhone I was using Twitterrific. Okay, not for long, because Twitterfon had a better usability. When I started tweeting for more than one account, I was using both applications – until I got aware of Tweetie for iPhone.
When posts appeared last week all over the place (e. g. TechCrunch and Mashable) that Twitterrific 2.0 is available in the iTunes App Store I got curious.
And here are my (admittedly brief) findings:
(1) Support of multiple accounts:
Finally. But nothing new to someone using Tweetie for iPhone for his daily work.
(2) Nearby search:
That is an interesting option. However, TweetStack has a similar feature. And usually, I tend to search by topic or hashtag, not necessarily by location.
(3) Timeline:
(4) @Replies:
(5) Direct messages:
I am a bit confused here, that all DMs seem to go into the same folder. With regards to the masses of auto-generated DM upon following, this is a bit uncomfortable.
(6) Tweet “context menu”:
Good usability here.
Bottom-line:
Version 2.0 has brought Twitterrific certainly back into the game. However, if you are used to Tweetie there is – despite the impressive list of new features that Twitterrific 2.0 offers – not much incentive to switch.
If you need on the other hand a new iPhone Twitter client app anyway then it is worth while to have a look at Twitterrific first, before spending money on Tweetie: If you do not mind some advertising from time to time, Twitterrific is free of charge… :)

Thank you for your detailed descriptions. I´m also using Tweetie and I´m happy with it so far. I first used Twitterrific for a while, but I have to say that I´m much more comfortable with Tweetie.
